Power Raking

Remove thatch buildup and give your lawn the breathing room it needs to grow thick and healthy.

What Is Power Raking

Power raking uses a machine with rotating tines to pull the layer of thatch out of your lawn. Thatch is the buildup of dead grass, roots, and organic matter that accumulates between the soil and the living grass blades. When it gets too thick, it blocks water, air, and nutrients from reaching the roots.

Why It Matters in North Dakota

Bismarck lawns go through a lot. Cold winters, heavy snow, and dry summers put real stress on grass. Thatch builds up fast under those conditions, and without regular power raking it can choke out a lawn that otherwise looks healthy on the surface. Spring is the ideal time to do it before the growing season gets going.

The Process

We run the power rake across your entire lawn in overlapping passes, then collect and haul away the material we pull out. The lawn will look rough right after but recovers quickly and grows back noticeably thicker and greener within a few weeks of treatment.

Combined With Overseeding

Power raking is a great time to overseed thin or bare areas. With the thatch cleared and the soil exposed, seed makes direct contact with the ground and establishes much more reliably than it would if broadcast over an untreated lawn.

Recommended Frequency

Most lawns in the Bismarck area benefit from power raking once a year in the spring. Lawns with heavy thatch buildup or significant bare patches may benefit from additional treatment. We can assess your lawn and make a recommendation based on what we see.
